Description

The Nutrition and Dietetic Technician Associate of Applied Science degree prepares students for careers in healthcare, schools, community programs, wellness, and foodservice management. The curriculum integrates classroom instruction with supervised practice experiences to develop knowledge and skills in nutrition care, management, leadership, and foodservice operations.

Graduates are eligible to take the National Registration Examination for Nutrition and Dietetic Technicians (NDTR) administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Graduates are also eligible to take the Certified Dietary Manager, Certified Food Protection Professional (CDM, CFPP) examination administered by the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers.

This program is approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), located at 120 S. Riverside Plaza, Suite 2190, Chicago, IL 60606-6995; 1-800-877-1600 or 312-899-0040, ext. 5400. It is also approved by the Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals (ANFP).

Note: Application for admission to the Nutrition and Dietetic Technician Program is required. See prerequisites listed below. Central Arizona College recommends that students work in a nutrition-related field, which is desirable for obtaining a supervised practice site.

Program Learning Outcomes

Prerequisite
High School Diploma or GED.

Acceptance for admission to the Dietetic Technician Program is required.

Applications for admission to the Nutrition and Dietetic Technician program are accepted from February 1 st to June 15th. Application information can be found at https://centralaz.edu/

Before applying to the program, the courses with the following general education prefixes must be completed with a C or better. BIO, CHM, ENG, and MAT. Completion of required Chemistry (CHM) course within the last (5) years.

Completion requirement
Complete ALL of the following Courses:
Earn at least 3 credits from the following:

COM100 or higher.

Earn at least 3 credits from the following:

Select a course numbered 100 or above from the following: ART, HMC, LIT, MHL, PHI, and THE. Students may also choose any course from the Arts and Humanities AGEC lists.

Earn at least 3 credits from the following:

Select a course numbered 100 or above from the following: ANT, ECN, GEO, HIS, POS, PSY, and SOC. Students may also choose any course from the Social and Behavioral Sciences AGEC lists.

Earn at least 8 credits from the following:

*CHM130 or higher

Earn at least 3 credits from the following:

MAT151 College Algebra or higher

Completion requirement
Complete ALL of the following Courses:

Internship NTR296 OR NTR296A & NTR296B

Completion of NTR course requirements within three (3) years of beginning the program.

Meet all ACEND requirements

With assistance from NTR295 Dietetic Technician Professional Practice Internship faculty, students set up their own internship sites and preceptors.

Students must earn:

  • a grade of C or better in all required courses for this AAS Degree;

  • a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale;

  • a minimum of 3 earned CAC credits numbered 100 or above;

  • a minimum of 64 semester credits.
