Course Description

Transitions theory is used to examine unhealthy transitions and nursing therapeutics in pediatric and obstetrical settings. Recommended: Participate in a study group, use the learning resource center if needed, and meet with your nursing faculty advisor at least twice during the semester to evaluate your progress. Prerequisites: NUR121A, NUR125X, NUR126AX, ENG101, and MAT141 or Higher. Corequisites: NUR 121B, NUR 125X, NUR 145A, PSY101 and ENG102.
Detailed Description: This course focuses on the role of the nurse in meeting the physiological, psychosocial, cultural and developmental needs of the maternal and child client. Course content includes antepartal, intrapartal, and postpartal care, complications of pregnancy, gynecological alterations, and selected pediatric alterations. Nutrition, pharmacology, cultural diversity, use of technology, communication, anatomy and physiology review, medical terminology, and clinical judgement are integrated throughout this course. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to provide and manage care for maternal and pediatric clients in a variety of settings.
