Measurable Student Learning Outcomes

1. (Knowledge Level) Identify the events of the past associated with the development of a distinctively unique African-American community in the New World. 2. (Knowledge Level) Define West African social, political and religious institutions and recognize the preservation and maintenance of African beliefs, customs, and traditions in African-American communities. 3. (Comprehension Level) Indicate the countries involved in the Atlantic Slave Trade as well as the various cash crops and labor systems of plantations in the British West Indies and British North America. 4. (Comprehension Level) Describe the racialization of servitude and the development of chattel slavery in the American South. 5. (Comprehension Level) Discuss the resistance tactics African Americans used to protest their unfree status from capture to emancipation.
