Course Description
Student teaching in an elementary (K-8) classroom with coaching from an experienced master teacher and scheduled course meetings will include demonstration of skills across these key areas: principles of learning and development, recognizing learning differences, creating supportive learning environments, mastering content knowledge and its application, assessing, monitoring and reporting student progress, designing and planning lessons for instruction (including modifications, and accommodations), implementing effective instructional strategies, engaging in ongoing professional learning and ethical practice, and fostering leadership and collaboration. This course is considered a 12-week student teaching capstone field experience (excluding breaks and holidays) for Teacher in Residence candidates. Outcomes are aligned to the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) Model Core Teaching Standards.
