Course Description
This course emphasizes the application of theories, methods, and techniques for developmentally appropriate evidence-based instructional delivery, facilitation, and methodologies for teaching mathematics in grades K-8, including students with exceptionalities. Includes standards-based alignment with mathematical practices, elements of effective mathematics instruction with lesson planning, differentiation including accommodations and modifications, formative and summative assessment practices, 21st century skills, technology integration, and data literacy for monitoring and reporting progress. Includes current trends from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM PSSM), and current research and application of the dimensions aligned with the science of mathematics and making connections with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics). Includes concepts of numbers, operations, proportions, measurement, and reasoning, highlighting interdisciplinary strategies of instruction connected with other content areas.
