Course Description

This course provides an overview of a structured literacy approach, including instruction, assessment, intervention, and dyslexia and development of early literacy skills (grades K-8). Topics include developmentally appropriate instructional delivery, facilitation, and methodologies for teaching English Language Arts, with instructional design and lesson planning for interventions, modifications, and accommodations to improve reading proficiency. The course emphasizes characteristics for recognizing and understanding dyslexia, intensifying instruction through interventions, and various assessment tools to analyze miscues, diagnose learner needs, monitor and report on progress, and differentiate instruction through intentional planning. Note: The course is approved by ADE for part B of the K-5 Literacy Endorsement on the state Teaching Certificate.
