Course Description
This course surveys the profession of teaching by examining the historical, legal, and societal influences on K–12 education. Students evaluate current trends and diversity issues impacting teaching and learning. Students evaluate evidence-based methodologies and strategies to maximize student achievement. The course emphasizes instructional design and lesson planning that incorporate accommodations, differentiation, and modifications to meet the needs of all learners. Integration of developmentally appropriate instructional delivery, facilitation, and methodologies across disciplines, including the Arts and Language domains are emphasized in this course. Students explore assessment practices with monitoring and reporting student progress. The course includes analyzing the ethical and professional responsibilities of educators through the Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE) as outlined by the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC). Students evaluate and interpret the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards.
