Course Description

Examines the structure and function of microorganisms and the role they play in human disease with emphasis on classification and characteristics of microorganisms, microbial metabolism and genetics, pathogenesis, immunology and epidemiology. Laboratory work includes the practice of microscopy, culturing, aseptic technique and identification of microorganisms through biochemical and other tests. Prerequisites: BIO156 with minimum grade of C, or BIO181 with minimum grade of C or Introductory Biology Assessment with minimum grade of C.
